PPIC Irrigated Crop Acreage, 2018–22

This spreadsheet contains data, sources, and methods used in the June 2024 policy brief “Drought and Groundwater Sustainability in California’s Farming Regions.”

This dataset includes a summary of irrigated agricultural lands across California for the years 2018–22. Data is organized by region, crop type, year, and the applicability of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) to those lands. All data are from the California Department of Water Resources Statewide Crop Mapping Datasets. It accompanies the June 2024 policy brief “Drought and Groundwater Sustainability in California’s Farming Regions.”

The “Primary cropping data” sheet gives details about main (summer) crops of different types, regions, and years. The “Multi-cropping data (summary)” sheet provides information about lands that are growing crops during multiple seasons of the year (e.g., winter and summer plantings, etc.).
