Some findings of the current survey:

  • Californians are much more likely than adults nationwide to view global climate change as a very serious problem.
  • Two in three Californians say the state is divided into haves and have-nots.
  • Slightly more than half (54%) favor providing health care coverage for undocumented immigrants in California.
  • Half prioritize new ideas and a different approach over experience and a proven record in a presidential candidate.

  • Californians have generally positive views of their health, with 80 percent calling it good to excellent.
  • Most say that health care services in their communities should emphasize prevention more than treatment.

  • Obama and Biden lead Romney and Ryan by 14 points in the presidential race in California.
  • On the two tax measures to fund education, half of likely voters favor Proposition 30 and support is slightly lower for Proposition 38.
  • Likely voters prefer life imprisonment over death as the penalty for first-degree murder.

Some findings of the current survey:

  • A strong majority of Californians support the Local Control Funding Formula; fewer than half favor the Common Core State Standards.
  • Most public school parents say they have heard nothing at all about the Smarter Balanced assessments.
  • Half of Californians say the state’s budget situation is a big problem for K–12 education and six in 10 say state funding for local schools is not enough.
  • Two-thirds of adults and about half of likely voters would vote yes on a state or local bond measure to fund school construction projects.
