Some findings of the current survey:

  • Two in three Californians support the state’s emissions reduction goals.
  • Strong support for cleaner fuels and energy declines if these changes would result in higher electricity bills or gas prices.
  • A slim majority of likely voters would support the $11.1 billion water bond; support for a lower bond amount is slightly higher.

PPIC Statewide Survey: Californians and Higher Education

Some findings of the current survey:

  • Californians give high grades to their public higher education systems but are worried about increased student costs and state budget cuts.
  • State leaders get record low approval ratings for their handling of higher education: 21 percent for Governor Schwarzenegger and 16 percent for the state legislature.
  • Sixty-seven percent of Latino parents of children aged 18 or younger are very worried about being able to afford a college education, while 38 percent of white parents say the same.

Some findings of the current survey:

  • Opposition to offshore drilling has jumped 16 percent since last year.
  • A slim majority say state action is needed right away to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Among likely voters, Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman are about even in the race for governor, with 23 percent undecided.
  • Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina are also in a close contest for the U.S. Senate, with 22 percent undecided.

PPIC Statewide Survey: Californians and the Environment

Key findings of the survey include: Most Californians think it is very important that the state take steps now to respond to climate change, though views vary across party lines. An overwhelming majority say that extreme weather events are a problem in their part of the state. A majority believe the use of electric vehicles helps address climate change; half have seriously considered getting one, and nearly one in ten have already done so.
